Onan RV generator choke problem?

I have a Onan Model 4BGEFA26100M. There is a vacuum diaphram with a rod that hooks to the choke. If I do not manually push this spring loaded rod in during starting, it will not start. Once the engine starts the vacuum off the inlet manifold holds it in. If I am going down the road I cannot do this without pulling over. What do I need to do to correct this problem. I have checked the hose and do not see any leaks. One would think that the vacuum produced during starting would start to retract this rod, but it is not.

there may be a pinhole leak in the diaphragm, test it with a hand operated vacuum pump or try this: remove the hose from the unit, depress the plunger all the way in, place your finger over the vacuum nipple to seal it, observe, if the plunger extends, the diaphragm is leaking and needs to be replaced.
