will a 240 v generator and a 120 Generator equal Three Phase?
will one generator producing 240v and another generator producing 120v put together in a Three Phase braker box equal three phase correctly with out problems
No. The Voltage Amplitude has nothing to do with phase relationships. A single phase 240 Volt ac source is not equivalent to two separate and different phase120 Volt sources if that`s what you are asking. You may be confusing the output of a 240V generator with that of the end to end 240 Volts of the secondary of a center tapped transformer. The output of the end to end 240V center tapped secondary could be a two phase (180 degrees apart) 120V system or a single phase 240V system whereas the 240 Volt generator only has a single phase 240 Volt output.
A 240V generator and a 120V generator with a common return line would be the equivalent of an unequal in amplitude, two phase system with an unknown and, unless they were synchronized, varying phase angle between the two phases. The two generators connected to the three phase breaker box could best be described as just two unrelated ac generators improperly connected to a breaker box which would probably result in damaging cross current between the two once a load is connected to one or more of the breaker box outputs.
If the output of any single phase ac source is fed into the primary of a transformer with a center tapped secondary the Voltage between each end of the secondary and the center tap terminal will be exactly 180 degrees displaced from each other and will be of equal amplitudes. This amounts to a two phase system with the phases 180 degrees apart. For some applications it may be possible to use a reactance to shift the current of one branch off the Voltage supplied by one of the two phases and thus create a 3 phase system of sorts. But a standard 3 phase system can only be derived from a single phase system by using a motor with a single phase input to drive a generator with a 3 phase output..
