When load is increased on a small generator, does speed increase, and if so, how is frequency regulated?
I have a John Deere generator to power my house during power failures. It is powerful enough to run large appliances such as the well. Every time one of these large appliances turns on (so the load on the generator increases) the engine revs up and it sounds as though it is increasing speed. However, I did some research on alternating current, and it turns out that as the speed of a generator changes, so does the frequency of the power output. But the generator has to always produce 60 Hz to keep large motors working, as well as other appliances. So, if it does speed up, how is 60 Hz maintained, and if it doesn't, why does the engine get louder and seem to rev up?
the load is felt on the coil of the generator. the more the load, the harder to spin, then more fuel is burned and it sounds louder.
