How much power is required for an HF radio to sustain transmission?
In the past (about 6 months to a year) communication has been sucessful, now their signal fades just after their ID transmit. Could the most likely problem be: 1) System power drain, e.g. unable to sustain charge during transmit; 2) Corrosion on power connections; 3) Corrosion on the antenna connections?
The Radio is vital to a remote out-post comm-link powered by a12v, 5 gel-cell battery bank system; photo-solar charg and generator back up. Morning communication was brief then rapidly deteriorated as their signal faded. Morning Voltage read 12v at the time. Later about 14:30, at 13v they could hear me but I could not pull them out. Unit shares a panal box w/ designated breaker.

If they can hear you, the SWR most likely is ok, meaning your antenna and antenna connections are good.
If you measured 13v at the tranceiver when transmitting that would indicate your battery connections are good.
And the fact they can hear you means you have enough power.
To pull the station you want to hear, out of the noise doesn't require power. When matching an antenna for best SWR a noise bridge can be used. The antenna is tuned for maximum noise out of the tranceiver. At that point the SWR will be the lowest or best.
Lastly in amateur radio it's good practice to use the minimum amount of power needed to maintain good copy. If it's 10 watts or 1000 watts.
