How do you calculate the pump size required to pump water from a lake up to resevour 60ft high?
Lake level is at 360 ft above sea level. Pump is to be 8 ft above lake level. Rise from pump is 52 ft. and about 75 ft back from lake shore. (It's on a hillside) Power is supplied by a generator capable of 120 volt and 240 volt. water presure and volume are not a factor.
"water pressure and volume are not a factor."
Yes they are, volume in particular. The height above sea level has nothing to do with it. Diameter of pipe is a major factor and the mass of liquid to be moved per hour is absolutely needed.
The pump motor has to be able to lift so many foot pounds per minute (horsepower) of water - 60 feet times weight of water times running time. If the pipe is small and the volume is large, the drag effects of the pipe impair the operation of the pump. The watts needed by the motor is a metric conversion from foot pounds per minute times the efficiency of the motor and if the motor is slowed or stalled, it will draw a lot more power and blow fuses/breakers.
